William (Bill) Martin was escorted by angels departing from University of Chicago Medical Center on March 31, 2015. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 15, 1951 and was the only child of William Martin and Phyllis Fisher.
Practically unconquerable, with courage and humor, he survived one year and nine months from the diagnosis of his cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nusara, sons Michael and William Martin, stepchildren Kraisorn & Tiffany Thupvong, Heather Born, & Lisa Kneeland, step grandchildren Klaire & Amellia Thupvong, Allita & Triella Kneeland, along with adoring friends too numerous to list.
Bill attended Crete High School and Southern Illinois University. Bill was a supporter of the Coast Guard Foundation, a 33 degree Free Mason of Western Springs, Illinois Lodge #1136, a retired Operating Engineer from Local #150 specializing in tower cranes and long booms, as well as Safety Director for a number of years. He was a member of First Society for Readers of The Urantia Book.
Bill was well-travelled, well-read, a pilot, a sailor, lifted the down-trodden, fed the poor, generous, teller of truth, enjoyed speaking Spanish and sailing his 50 ft. sailboat “Sage of Salem” to Guatemala, preparing amazing feasts for family and friends, studying The Urantia Book, and spreading the Good News. Loyal friend with a heart the size of the moon, Bill will be greatly missed! Until we meet again in time and eternity, adios!
